Sergeant Major Stocker

The man to the left of this picture is Sergeant Major Barry Stocker. He is one of the men who had a major influence on me when I began reenacting. When I met him, Barry was the President of the Susquehanna Civil War Roundtable. It was apparent to me that he was a quiet man, who takes pride in being a Marine. When I began reenacting, Barry pointed me to the artillery, where I would have more opportunities as I was under the age where I could fire a gun. After I turned 16, I began to attend reenactments with him portraying the 5th Kentucky Cavalry as a Confederate. It is a dismounted cavalry unit, which during the War would have been men who got off of their horses to scout ahead while another man stays in the rear with the horses. Here, Barry and I are explaining different types of weaponry to some spectators at the Urban Church event. It is a living history event at a church picnic where different people show up to demonstrate different things. By the time the day was over, we had a small engagement and burned a lot of powder in the process.
