Another busy day. Mr S was named a 2014 Community Hero and received an award for his outstanding work on the Farmers Markets Board of Directors. There was a presentation ceremony by the Santa Cruz County Community Assessment Project to recognize the contributions of over a dozen hard-working volunteers in various fields.

We should have quit on that upnote and gone out for a nice lunch, but since we were in that part of town we chose to go to a big discount hardware store to look for a particular kind of lightbulb. The place was filled with so much Christmas insanity that I could feel it like a smothering wave: everything garish and inflatable and programmable and blinking like mad. What possesses people to drape the outsides of their homes with things that depend on air compressors and long extension cords? And we never found the light bulb. But it was lovely to see my own dear Mr S in the spotlight, the center of so much loving appreciation.
