Yi Peng - Lantern Love

This is the northern Thai festival known as Yi Peng. Thousands of lanterns are released in order 'to make merit'. Creating a magnificent spectacle and a health and safety nightmare. Apparently the festival originally celebrated the end of the rainy season and the start of the cool season. However the combination of lanterns and 'respectful dress' of no shoulders or knees showing, there was no sign of cold season!

From the adrenaline that I might be set alight from a wayward lantern, the dreamy floating lights, the great fried chicken on sale and perfect company (in no order of preference of course) this event comes highly recommended.
