Garmouth Viaduct

This is the very impressive Garmouth Viaduct which crosses the River Spey close to the sea. It used to carry trains but nowadays forms a valuable link for walkers and cyclists, avoiding a lengthy detour as there are no other crossings nearby. The National Cycle Route (NCN) 1 crosses it taking tourists and visitors over the Spey with breathtaking views all around. You don't have to look too closely to see that the bridge timbers are in poor condition. I was out on site today to discuss funding for replacement decking and timber work, we already have enough to replace the decks but it would be better still to replace all the timber and ensure this bridge lasts for a long time to come. The site meeting went well and it looks as though the bid I will submit is likely to be successful, so hopefully I will post another photo on here in due course of the fully renovated bridge taking pride of place over the Spey!
