Lane to nowhere . . .
Until just a few years ago, Ireland had been depopulating via emigration since the potato famine of the 1850's. Elaborate & extensive dry stone walls such as this blip and ruins of stone dwellings are common in West Cork. The Mizen peninsula today has a permanent population of less than 3000 compared to its peak of more than 17,000 over a hundred years ago.
The prevalent westerly wind direction is quite evident in this scene.
But the winter is giving way to greenery just in time for St. Patrick's next week.
