European-wide Interconnectors
It may not be windy here but 'it's always windy somewhere'. Which is why High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Interconnectors are an important development thread within the EU.
It makes sense to establish solar PV plants in the south of Europe, where the conversion rate is higher given the increased incidence of solar radiation to the horizontal (and frankly, the Sun shines more often!) and wind power farms in the North, where it tends to be windier. To iron out the fluctuations requires a capacious and efficient network to transfer power from where it can be generated in a green, and reduced carbon manner, to where it is needed.
