Chincoteague Ponies
The ponies roam freely on Assateague Island, living on a diet of salt marsh plants and brush. They are rounded up biannually for veterinary treatment.
In 1947, Marguerite Henry's book Misty of Chincoteague made the ponies internationally famous.
