Another reason to retire to France... no, not the molluscs (although they are plentiful and quite tasty) It's the fact that a little snail festival like this can still draw people in the run-down to Christmas.

After seeing those desperate shoppers fighting over TVs on Black Friday, it's a relief to know that Santa will be doing his usual sleigh-ride through our villages, dispensing small treats for the kids, whilst the adults stuff themselves with cagouilles (the aforesaid snails) and look forward to another firework display. Ah yes, we know how to live!
