Cooking Chinese style

Today we went on a Chinese cookery course and our chef Peter explained how in China everything has a God.

There is a door God so each Chinese New Year the family or business will put banners down the sides of the doors to ask the door God for what they hope for in the coming year; money, health, happiness. The banners are red and gold as these are the lucky colours in China.

There is also a mirror at the top of the door to keep evil sprits away. Evil sprits can take on any face they wish so as to trick you but their true reflection will always be shown in the mirror.

Inside we learned to cook mixed vegetables, Gongbao chicken, steamed dumplings and the local speciality beer fish.
