Fred & Andy

Taking a short break on the way down to Sidhing

We left High Camp this morning after a disturbed night's sleep. At about 1am the wind picked up and our cabin door blew open waking us both with a fright. Andy got up and sorted it out but was cold afterwards and all you could hear was the wind coming in waves getting stronger and rattling the door then disappearing round the mountains again ... kind of spooky.

Today's trek was down hill all the way. Some of it quite steep and difficult. We've both taken to using bamboo sticks which help but it was really hard on the legs. Funnily enough much harder than going up and Freddie had jelly legs by the time we reached our final destination for the day which was a really pretty village called Sidhing. This pic is us taking a rest by the roadside. You can see our porter, Mon, in the photo. Mon is a gentle man of few words but has been an absolute star throughout the trek carrying our pack and making sure we're ok.

We spent the first part of the evening sampling some local rum and then ate dinner in the kitchen with the family of the guest house, Dharma and Mon. We had our staple diet of the week which is Daal Bhat. A lovely dish with daal soup, vegetable curry, usually some greens, some pickle and a popadom. Lovely but it can get a bit much having it every day ... the locals eat it twice a day!

Nice to be back down from altitude ... its certainly much warmer down here overnight.
