Books which have influenced my life No. 1

Last week as my subscribers know we had three lovely days in the Lake District.

It has been a life long passion. So much so that I retired near its Southern edge. But I was keen on it long before I ever went there.

This afternoon I walked round the village delivering things. I called at the house of a lady who is a dear friend. I know that if I call once December has arrived she will have a bottle of sherry open. There on her coffee table was the book pictured above. It was reading that as a boy which led me to want to go to Windermere and Coniston Water and once I did I was hooked. There is nowhere else which combines mountain drama in an intimate scale

How many blippers I wonder were also influenced by those delightful stories, published in 1930, but still loved today.
