Wish List

Oh dear! December 1 already and I know I should be looking forward to Christmas.

Everyday that I pass by this Christmas tree is a reminder that the day itself is drawing ever closer, and the fact that I have not even thought of Christmas shopping yet.

Or indeed what I should ask Santa for this time around.

Long gone are days of childhood expectation of course, but I still have fond recollections of being urged to go to bed and sleep early on Christmas Eve by my parents. And then the excitement of waking ridiculously early and discovering, not a stocking, but a pillowcase full of goodies at the end of the bed. It was the only time of year I was allowed to get into their bed while I eagerly examined the contents of the pillowcase!

Aah, fond memories! Subsequently I tried to instil those same feeling of anticipation and excitement in my family, and hopefully with a few years of success.

This year my own expectations will necessarily be relatively modest.

Although tomorrow's Euro lottery with a £57 million jackpot could just go on my wish list as an early pressie!
