Orchid Tree Flower

Another close up shot of the brightly colored flower of the orchid tree, common in our area and nearing the end of its profuse blooming season. The bark of the trunk and branches is covered with small but sharp spikes that would deter almost anything from climbing them. Nature's built-in protection.
