Silver Laced Wyandottes

My usual Thursday morning walk from home to RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss. There to meet and have lunch with my wife and five ladies who have spent the morning pulling Hemp agrimony in the Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve.

My route today takes me on a footpath through the yard of Tower Farm.

Looking for a blip and chance takes a hand as is so often the case. These two handsome creatures walk to greet me.I can't say I have ever seen their like before.

Back home it is time to do some research. This leads me to be pretty sure that they are Silver Laced Wyanottes. The breed was first recognised on Ohio (although one reference claims Wisconsin) in the 1870s

I read that they have a gentle temperament and that they lay about 200 palish brown eggs each year.

Their picture was much admired by my lady friends over our soup and roll lunch.
