By a weak December light
It was an overcast day and also late afternoon when I took this photo but to be fair it always seems dark in this room so the dim light was appropriate. I guess it must have something to do with the narrow window and the dark wood panelling. This tiny chamber was where Mary Queen of Scots was sent to have her baby, the future King James the 6th of Scotland and 1st of England. You can just make out the initials on the wood panelled ceiling on either side of the coat of arms for Mary and I.R, latin for James. Apart from the fact that giving birth to James was long and I would guess painful she tragically only saw him till he was 1o months old. After that she married Bothwell and was captured quite soon after. I don't think it would be easy for anyone Mary included to be permanently separated from one's child. This room holds many memories.
