Coastal Redwood

Sequoia sempervirens, showing current years cones and small undeveloped male cones which will shortly be producing large quantities of pollen. This tree part of an interesting number of species planted throughout the area by an unusually keen highway engineer. He also wrote a small book viewing the trees as an arboretum.
