Gliding in to land

My stepdaughter's 21st birthday is on Tuesday and we celebrated early with brunch this morning at the River City Brewing Company on the south side of the St Johns River, Jacksonville.

After the meal and family photographs outside, I wandered off for 10 minutes or so in search of my picture for the day.

The Main Street Bridge, a lift bridge, is synonymous with downtown Jacksonville and has been photographed by countless of people many times before. I was trying to look for something a little bit different and settled on seagulls perched on the concrete mooring posts, with the bridge in the background.

After firing off several shots, the resulting images seemed a little flat until one gull decided it wanted the perch on the post in the foreground and came into land. I fired the shutter as the bird was framed between the two towers of the bridge and had a picture with a dynamic element.
