Elves and Pixies

Finally bought some Christmas cards from the elves and pixies in the local bookshop.

Bumped in to an acquaintance that I haven't seen since last Christmas. Was glad to see him because his news last Christmas was that he was dying of pancreatic cancer. He still is of course, but he is also running every day and says he hasn't been as fit since he was 20. He tells me that he wants quality of life, not length, but that all the drugs for this cancer are designed for prolonging life and have very unpleasant side effects.

I was glad to have the conversation. But as I drove off I realised that I hadn't asked his wife how she was. Life must be very hard for her at the moment, and I suspect that people may forget to focus on her. Or perhaps it's just me that forgets something that should be obvious.
