It took years of discussions to decide on the Hindhead tunnel project, eventually it was built. The tunnel is over a mile long and dug out under the Devil's Punchbowl, so the beauty of the heath land can still be enjoyed. In addition the motorists are happier as they do not wait for ages at Hindhead crossroads and journey time through the tunnel is now much quicker.
