Bald Eagle
I went back to Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge early this morning. I was going to blip the tundra swans today. However...I saw so many of them (hundreds) but only one eagle. He was quite far away. I think he found the perfect perch.
Interestingly there fewer cars taking advantage of the opening of the dike roads around the ponds today. There were easily twice as many cars yesterday ( a weekday).
The visitor center was open yesterday (it is closed on weekends). They said this would be the only time the roads would be open to the public this year. The roads around the ponds are closed to all October 15 to March 15 to protect the waterfowl. After March 15 the roads are open to walkers and bikers.
Here is yesterday's blip (also taken at Mackay Island NWR)
