Cairn commemorating the 1303 Battle of Roslin

A cold day, with snow forecast. for the December Spokes Ride to Leadburn. While there was a heavy snow shower earlier in the morning, it didn't turn out as bad as forecast. It was cold, but no snow. Initially we headed up to Fairmilehead, then east to Kaimes and Lasswade Road. We followed the newly opened cycle path from Lasswade Road through Loanhead to Roslin.

At Roslin, I noticed the Cairn that commemorates the Scottish victory over the English at the Battle of Roslin in 1303. See the Rosling Biocentre website, here, for more info. Despite the fact we have passed this way more than once, the cairn hadn't really caught our eyes until today. I think we were also surprised by what appears to be tree blossom. Hence the blip.

From Roslin, we headed down to Auchendinny to follow the River Esk path through Penicuik. We eventually ended up at the Leadburn Inn for lunch. While there, the worst of the day's weather occurred, so there was little incentive to leave the cosy restaurant bar. Especially as there was such good food on offer, and it was warm and cosy.

In the end, we have to leave to cycle back to Edinburgh. We went back through Howgate, Mount Lothian, Carrington and Roslin. We did experience some winter weather on the way back, there were less opportunities to take photographs. However it didn't really last that long, and didn't put a dampener on the day.
