Saltaire Canteen

Saltaire Canteen is a newly opened eatery that embodies food with community and the environment

SC uses food that supermarkets would throw away and makes it into delicious meals. We apparently waste a third of the food we ever buy and this is about trying to eradicate waste,

The heart of it is is about community, although there are some paid staff, it galvanises the enthusiasm of local people and the cogs of this fabulous machine are turned by a whole host of volunteers .

As a customer it's a new experience as it's a Pay As You Feel concept: so you pay what you think the food is worth

I have to say the things we ordered were worth a lot. We gained not just delicious nourishing food , but we gained warmth and kindness at being inside this lovely place.

It's smart, it's kind, it's tasty, it's modern , it's a new idea, it's all about the community and the environment . What's not to love ?


A lovely hour spent there Saturday : oh and it was right after a huge PB at parkrun so what better way to reward myself than with cake .
