Arsenic: The Silent Killer #Bangladesh
Last month we spent time with IMPACT Bangladesh in Meherpur District. It was shocking to meet people, like this lady, who displayed signs of arsenic poisoning. Here she is showing us the skin lesions which have started to form on her hands - one of the first signs of arsenicosis.
Like so many villages in rural Bangladesh, her community's water supply contains dangerous levels of arsenic. People live in poverty and have no choice but to continue drining water which is slowly poisoning them.
As resources allow IMPACT Bangladesh provides families with SONO filters so they can remove harmful arsenic from their drinking water. We are also trialling whole village systems like ringwells and sidko plants.
