Slievenalecka

The magic didn't quite follow us today as it did yesterday. Perhaps we had exhausted our ration for the trip! That said, on a showery day, we avoided getting wet, from above at least. I got pretty wet from the bottom up, being forced to make a couple of scary river crossings.

After walking up to Loch an Duin, TJ and I split up so that she could get her archaeology fix and me my mountain fix. Once I saw the elegant lines of Slievenalecka rising up from the cwm I became like a man possessed! The trouble was that once I had descended from the summit I had to cross the Scorid river at the top of the waterfall, and it was something of a raging torrent after all last night's rain. Unbeknown to me, TJ was having the same problem down below, and sensibly decided to turn back without being able to see the sites that she wanted to visit. I wasn't so sensible, but retracing my steps would have meant I would have been out too long, possibly causing some worry. In the end, the crossing was made, and then back again at the bottom, without getting anything important wet.

We then took a walk from Brandon Point before returning via Connor Pass to visit another cashel at Caherdorgan and then a final pilgrimage to the coast at Ferreters Cove to watch the sunset before returning to Dingle.
