Lava flowed into Beautiful Blue Waters
As you may know the Big Island of Hawaii is continuing to grow because an active volcano is spewing lava which flows to the ocean where it is cooled....hardens....and the island gets bigger. We didn't go over the active Volcano...but I hope to while we are here.
This photo is of an older lava flow accumulated near the water line. By-the-way, the color of the water here is amazing colors of blue. Anyway, there are black lava flows everywhere on this island...some are amazing swirls...I almost blipped a photo of the swirled lava "frozen" in time. There was a large area of these beautiful swirls in the middle of the airport, between the runways!!
Developers have to spend a fortune to develop the land in the newer lava fields. They bring in fill dirt and sand and if you look at this photo closely, you will see where a golf course and park have been established near this spot. You can see the sand and a "shade hut".
More from Hawaii for the next few days while I am here. I hope I can find a place to snorkel tomorrow. I will let you know.
