Guide dog in training

Meet Max, his 'puppy walkers' brought him in today, he is a guide dog in training and I have seen him for his checks since they received him into their care. Max will stay with them until he is 12 months old and then he goes into training to be a guide for someone with no sight or partially sighted.

When I first qualified and was working in Liverpool my practice used to look after a lot of Guide dogs. One young man who was in his early 20's made a lasting impression on me. He was a very cool guy, loved music and was engaging in life fully, his Guide dog allowed him that freedom. He could get on the bus, meet up with friends at any time and anywhere and be independent. Guide dogs are fabulous as is the charity the trains them.
