A quiet day
Warm and dry but none of the sparkling sunshine and blue skies of yesterday. It was one of those days that drifts past happily and peacefully, when you feel at ease but you're not sure what you've done or where it's gone.
Actually, I strolled down into Funchal quite early, after breakfast and the gym, and really appreciated the wonderful work they have done on the gardens by the Waterfront. In 2010 there was a dreadful tragedy and tons and tons of rubble and debris was washed down from inland. It's been a bit of an eyesore but they have now shaped the area beautifully, with beds of local plants and pretty seats.
I had a look in my favourite shops, stopped by for a quiet visit to the cathedral, and then met friends for coffee in a delightful new coffee shop.
By the time we had checked out two new possible restaurants and had a snack in the sunshine on my balcony, it was time for another swim........
The photo is of one of the African carvings in the first floor public area. The hotel is beautifully and originally furnished - and I suppose we take it for granted.
Time to stop and appreciate.
