Simply Me

A different view

Things can be different depending how and when we look at them.

Sometimes that's a literal view like today. Salisbury Crags is a familiar blip of mine, but today it looks so different with a sprinkling of snow. Yes that's right folks, we finally got snow in Edinburgh - woohoo! In fact if you look closely you can see it was still snowing when I took this shot! (It soon turned to slush but I've high hopes for more).

Other times it's a change in your perspective. After my maudlin post of two days ago, things have become clearer. The pain and the self pity have diminished and I'm able to think without tearing up.

Looking at my situation now, it doesn't seem as hopeless. I've been walking and running a certain way for 33 years. How on earth did I expect 2 months wearing orthotics to be enough to allow my limbs, joints, muscles and ligaments to be perfectly ok with the change?

So I hurt my back. That's not surprising. It's actually to be expected. 2 months isn't enough time to adjust to start running again everyday. I should have taken it a lot lot slower. Marcothon next year would have been a bit of a better goal. I see that now. Core strength, swimming and short runs once a week are more like it. So that's my plan. Starting January 1st, I will take another year to build up and next December let's see where I am.

But I need your help. Can you please remind me to be a tortoise when I try to be a hare?
