Day 13 - Liitle Rock, AR to Oklahoma City, OK

Breakfast with Susan at our bed and breakfast in Little Rock - yet another fascinating person we've had the pleasure of chatting with. She lived in the city during the civil rights era and had forthright views on the (backwards?) direction the country is going in some respects. A kindred spirit.

Said our goodbyes and had a quick look at downtown Little Rock and the State Capitol building. The latter was extremely impressive and we had the pleasure of watching a few local schools sing carols under the huge rotunda. Very festive. J bought some stamps at the on site post office and ended up chatting with the man behind the counter as it turned out he used to live very near her childhood home in Bedfordshire whilst serving in the forces. A small world.

Drove from there west on the I40 to Oklahoma City, stopping only for petrol (neh 'gas'). Not much to see en route although the scenery was not as flat and dull as we expected. 330+ miles covered in about five hours and it actually wasn't too tiring. We hit the sprawl of 'OKC', dumped the car and after a rest headed out to a nearby brewpub where 'chicken fried steak' was ordered by me - the state dish!? Burger for J. I didn't finish mine - massive portion to blame - even after having no lunch.

Continuing west tomorrow.
