Song Thrush returns
The weather has been colder today, a few rain sleet snow showers. This meant the feeders were busier than in recent days.
A pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers paid a lunchtime visit - they have learnt how to reach the fat block which is inside a squirrel proof metal cage, they can just reach it when the fat block is new. I presume this is a learned skill which is being passed down the generations as years ago they could not do this. Unfortunately didn't get a photo of them.
The Nuthatch made its usual visit to the seed feeders, scattering all the small birds as it arrived.
3 Robins had a brief stand off on the garage roof until one (male I presume) chased of another and one (female I presume) sat waiting to await the victor.
The highlight in many ways was this Song Thrush, who was joined by a second one shortly after I took this photo. Checking my BTO Garden Birdwatch records it was April when we last had a Song Thrush in the garden. This appears to be the normal seasonal rhythm, they obviously find food elsewhere in the Summer months.
