Site visit to St Thomas the Martyr, Newcastle with the building surveying students....up-close-and-personal behind the clock face. Who'd have thought that the modern-day clock mechanism was so small and the illumination was provided by a nasty modern strip light (that would be code for 'I didn't') But as I was doing my usual 'bringing up the rear' job, most of MY visit was spent in the pitch dark (trying to conserve torch batteries) half way up the tower playing the part of a cross between a traffic policeman and a cinema usherette for groups of students going up and down spiral staircases and ladders. Anyway, I'll definitely be going back, there's some lovely stained glass just begging to be blipped another day.....
