My books of the year

Seems to be the time of year when the papers are listing books of the year, so here are mine (read this year rather than published this year). I really liked the two Nicholson Baker books, which are basically about poetry and music lyrics. The one that I'm considering reading again is Bryan Appleyard's The Brain is Wider than the sky, which is basically about how the human brain is not a machine. Nicholson Baker and Bryan Appleyard are both big Emily Dickinson fans, and strangely enough Emily Dickinson is also championed in Matt Haig's The Humans. I'll have to give her poetry a go...
