Ming and Ruth at The Songwriters Academy

Another very long but inspiring day. We had another talk from Martin Sutton in the morning on lyrics, on the use of internal rhymes and repetition etc, I worked with Chris and Pami, we had 45 minutes to write our song! I really like what we wrote and we have agreed that we will finish it.


Then in the afternoon we had a talk on melody by Jez Ashton, he gave us lots of practical exercises, I did mine with these two great girls, we had to write a melody only using certain chords and we had to mix up the types of melodies we used in our song, then we performed it and then had to go and write a new melody over our chord sequence, really great fun, we are also going to get together in the new year.

After pizza we all played our favourite songs live and sang along to them, amongst others we had I want You Back, Natural Woman, Fire and Rain, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Valerie etc... Lots of fun!

I'm sharing a room with a lovely woman of 25 called Katy, it's really nice sharing and chatting at the end of the day with just one person.
