St Edith Hall, Kemsing
Attending the Christmas carol concert of the Kensing Singers is the best way to start the festive season. Lots of audience particpation and some splended choir only pieces.
After the concert the choir were having a 50th birthday party and as one of my old oil industry work friends is in the choir, we were invited to join them There were awards - "Does anyone have a camera" the chairman asked? Silly question, when there is a blipper in the audience!
Kemsing was the birthplace, in AD961, of Saint Edith of Wilton, an illegitimate daughter of the Saxon King Edgar I. The hall that bears her name is a grade II listed building, built in the late 19th century which, during the first world war, was used as a hospital. As you can see it is a beautiful structure with a wooden barrel-vaulted ceiling.. Luckily, for the choir the acoustics are excellent.
