Inuit Art

One of my mutual Blip subscribers has recently been showing examples of Inuit art so I thought, as there was little chance today of outside shots, that I would join in.

When we bought this it was known as Eskimo Art but I understand that that is now a word which can offend in certain communities and that we should now use the word Inuit.

When we lived in Canada for three years in the early sixties Eskimo soapstone carvings and prints were becoming popular and providing an income for the northern communities. In earlier days they used Ivory from whale bones but once metal tools became available stone figures became common.

Large numbers of these owl figures have been made and you can buy them on eBay.
