Shaping Girls

My big girl isn't a real fan of dolls despite Grandma pressing a few on her enthusiastically. Perhaps my mumbled social criticism and disparaging views on toys pert, pink and plastic have influenced her views.

At any rate, we happened upon a set of dolls we could both adore. They aren't: sexualised/skeletal (with a boob job)/all blond and blue eyed/wearing pink and heels/lacking skill or pragmatism/perfectly fake!

There's even a wheelchair (Really?! We can even represent the injured, unwell or disabled?! This IS progress!)

Now how about we see some Asian and African shaped faces? And what about dolls of Hillary Clinton or Malala Yousafzai?

I wonder how the world would be different if we gave little girls powerful or progressive dolls instead of merely pretty ones...
