PUMPING THE DANUBE

My cousin Graham and a Romanian engineer took me deep down to the bowels of this old Soviet built water pumping station on the eastern bank of the Danube. It lifts 24,000 tonnes of water an hour during the arid summer months .... to irrigate the vast arable fields in the surrounding countryside.
