The bus stop
Poinsettia season. I’m really not a fan of them as plants go, don’t know why; however, I can see the appeal with that blast of red at this time of year. All the reds in this scene were what made me stop; the man with his poinsettia resting on the bus stop seat, the Macy’s bags in red and red star, and then lady’s bright scarf... although I think the scarf is technically pink.
We’ve actually managed to watch some movies in the last few weeks:
A Most Wanted Man (2014), Philip Seymour Hoffman, Willem Defoe, et al. Based on the John le Carré novel. I like spy-thrillers so was eager to see this. It was good and Mr Hoffman was excellent.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana. Another Marvel Comic made into a film. It was fine, good makeup and effects.
What If (2014), Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan. Cutesy romantic comedy. Enh, it was just ok.
Snowpiercer (2013), Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton. Dystopian science fiction action movie. I mainly watched this because it had Tilda Swinton in it but I have to admit that the story kept our interest and Tilda Swinton was excellent (and almost unrecognizable) as usual. There’s quite a bit of violence/fight scenes that got a bit tiring (for me) to watch. The other drawback was it felt like I was watching bits lifted from other movies, particularly Brazil and Delicatessen.
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, John Hurt. Beautiful and stylish movie, we both really enjoyed this one. Two ancient vampires, a long-distance couple, the woman living in Tangier, the man in Detroit. They reunite because one is becoming a bit depressed... It was a quiet and slow moving story, lots of conversation and lovely images.
