International Woman´s Day 2010

¨International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, IWD is a national holiday.¨....from the official site, and in Ecuador too it seems.

Boom, doom, boom...roll the drums, horns, trumpets, and bells to the militarized chop of marching through the streets. Moms, daughters, sisters, and wifes. From dressed up business woman to chollitas wearing bowler hats with their babies wrapped up in their chompas, supportive husbands, sons, fathers too. International Woman´s Day and all of Cuenca shown up in recognition.

I love all the marches, protests, parades, and celebrations here. There is something nearly every day. Ecuador makes the U.S. look moribund in comparison. Democracy and justice in the streets, like it should be.
