Crested Tit
I was in Salo today. The Steve McCurry exhibition was absolutely great. He's one of my favourites. Yesterday in Helsinki I went to see Caj Bremer's photographs in Ateneum. That was great too.
I grew up in Salo and today I went to see my childhood places. I used have bird watching as my number one hobby when I was a kid. So I visited the places where I spent most of my time during that era. They were changed quite a bit. There were two observation towers and several hides. The biggest change however was the waste water treatment plant which was built in the eighties. Back in the seventies there were only three open pools to clean the waste water. Viurilanlahti is one of the top bird habitats in Finland. The island Vuohensaari in the middle of it is great place too. This picture was taken there.
It was difficult to select the blip for a change. I wanted to blip some species I haven't done yet. So the options were crested tit (töyhtötiainen), coal tit (kuusitiainen), yellowhammer (keltasirkku) and flying whooper swans (laulujoutsen). I also got nice pictures of a squirrel.
Other birds I saw today were great spotted woodpecker (käpytikka), grey-headed woodpecker (harmaapäätikka), raven (korppi), first lapwing (töyhtöhyyppä) for this spring, lot's of gulls and fieldfares.
And finally when driving back home a lynx crossed the road in front of my car just few kilometers from home.
A good day :)
