I went to the annual Jasper County Air Show today, and was very pleased at the array of planes that were present. There was a genuine, Japanese Zero from WWII, several stunt planes, including some biplanes and an old M.A.S.H. look-alike helicopter. But, my favorite plane, by far, was the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber.

This plane, made by Boeing, had thirteen .50 caliber machine guns, and could carry 8,000 pounds of bombs. It was used extensively by the American Army Air Corps in WWII. For a mere $5.00, one could take a self-guided tour inside the plane. How could I resist? It was amazing to walk through an airplane that served this country - the world, yet survives today to inspire and awe onlookers. It was a treat to see this bird in flight. Though small by today's standards, it still seemed to occupy the entire sky.
