San Jacinto Battleground and Monument
My great-great-great-great-great uncle, Alexander McKenzie, fought in the Battle of San Jacinto, so to end my spring break road trip my mom and I went down to Houston to visit the battlefield where around 700 Texans beat over 1500 Mexicans, killing over 600, with casualties of only 9 n April 21, 1836. The battle was the culmination of Texas' War of Independence and drove out the Mexican government and army for good. For nine years Texas remained her own independent republic before becoming part of the US in 1845.
