The Life Aquatic with Darth Vader

Just the other day I was talking with my housemate about while I love Wes Anderson, it irritates me quite a bit to watch The Life Aquatic. I mean, I love the composition in threes, but why on earth does he do it? are we supposed to get a deeper meaning out of it, or is it just for looks? are the characters supposed to be contained... well I could go on and on, but I don't want to completely ruin all enjoyment of the movie.
