2 Centered Bowl
This is the bowl I started yesterday.
It is a type of eucalyptus burr and is like a brick. this makes it very hard to turn as the tools do not want to cut cleanly and blunt very quickly.
Because it is turned 'off centre' it makes it very unbalanced which means you have to keep the lathe speed low so that it
a. doesn't vibrate itself across the workshop
b. doesn't throw the wood off (generally at you).
Also, because the two hollowed areas overlap, the tool goes from solid wood into fresh air and then back into solid wood. This can result in the tool moving 'into' the space too far resulting in it being caught by the next bit of solid which can throw the tool handle upwards towards the chin....at speed and with quite some force. The slower the speed = more chance of this happening.
All in all..........a challenging peice to produce.
