Manteo NC

Manteo NC is named for an indiginous american native who assisted Sir Walter Raleigh on Roanoke Island and who traveled back to England in approximately 1585. Roanoke island is the site of the "Lost Colony" which was not truly lost, merely left to fend for themselves due to war between England and Spain utilizing all available english ships to defeat the spanish armada.
In recent history Manteo is asserted to be the birthplace of the shad boat. Boatbuilding is the traditional way of life here and there are still many small custom boatyards constructing custom hatteras style fishing cruisers here.
This little sloop is moored at the North Carolina Maritime Museum. I love her lines. The house on the pier in the distance is a coastal lighthouse.
