Arnol Blackhouse

These are the sleeping quarters in the Arnol Blackhouse (in Lewis). There is a heavy haze of peatsmoke in the room, which is what would have been the case in the distant past. People in this island have moved out of blackhouses a long time ago; the last one was abandoned in 1974, but what we would now call modern houses were built from the early 20th century onward.
