Mine, Mine, Mine...
Starlings do have a bit of a reputation for being greedy gits though - I watched a few fighting off the baby birds (easily spotted because the primary feathers in their tails aren't as long as the adult version yet) and whenever another adult came close well, this is what you got... There were a number of titles that could have been used for this one, but opted to go family friendly instead!
As for yesterday's late night blip; it was a feather that I found in the garden. I stood it upright on that bit kitchen fascia again and took some pictures with the flash. Somebody else on blip had posted the info for making a snoot using black straws. (I've forgotten who you were and I can't find the link you gave either, but if you are reading this, thanks!).
Anyway, I was in a hurry so I grabbed some extra straws when I was in a coffee shop. Had no idea where to get black straws so thought I'd give it a try with some freebies. The green light you saw on the blip is the result. The closer you get to the subject the stronger the colour effect seems to be.
No prizes for guessing which coffee chain the straws came from - unless you want a straw that is!
