Koala Koala

Couldn't come all the way to Australia and not blip a koala now could I? Have two!

Took off to Australia Zoo today, where the Steve Irwin legacy lives on. The road it sits on has been named after him and there's even a Steve Irwin Day that is 'celebrated' sometime in November. I had been before but Jen hadn't, so given its proximity to where we are and the fact that the weather was far from nice (so much for being on the Sunshine Coast) - it was a good way to spend the day. The focus on conservation and the well-being of animals gives it a definite edge over other 'zoos' but a zoo is a zoo at the end of the day and it can never be the same as seeing animals in their natural habitat. Having said all that, it was cool to feed a couple of kangaroos as they hopped around!

Did you know that at full speed a kangaroo can jump 3m high and 12m long in one go? Crikey!
