it came!

good news: I got ilife08 eventually, have had a quick play and am reasonably impressed with the iphoto improvements, time will tell if that will stretch to me actually using it though, but it seems rather nice, like the "skimming" feature

bad news: I've contracted some kind of virus (more or less everyone in my family has) - sickness, fever, weird dreams, etc.etc. Hopefully I'll be good for going to work tomorrow, I'm too busy to be ill!
