This poor girl was handcuffed to the lamppost. They'd thoughtfully given her a stool and some overalls, before liberally dousing her with water, fairy liquid, flour, milk etc. She didn't seem too happy.

We used to call this a 'blackening' where I lived, when the groom (and sometimes the bride if she was particularly unlucky) would get put in the back of a trailer, covered in treacle and flour, and driven around all the local villages.
